A QZS Vibration Isolator with Magnetic Stiffness Enhanced by Electromagnetic Shunt Damping

This study presents a QZS vibration isolator with magnetic spring and uses hybrid electromagnetic shunt damping (H-EMSD) to adjust the dynamic characteristics of the isolator. A magnetic induced QZS vibration isolator is designed, modeled and fabricated. H-EMSD is used to construct nonlinear damping and electromagnetic shunt mass (EMSM). Both the numerical simulation and experimental efforts are performed to verify the vibration isolation performance of the magnetic induced QZS vibration isolator with H-EMSD. The results demonstrate that the proposed H-EMSD can provide wonderful nonlinear damping to reduce vibration in the resonance region but do not affect the isolation performance in the isolation region. What’s more, H-EMSD can also change the “jump” frequency of the isolation system by tuning the negative resistance and negative inductance of the shunt. This work opens a new opportunity to further study electromagnetic shunt damping technique in linear and nonlinear systems.
