The conventional estimation approach employs an elastic model and an impervious screen model to describe the constitution behavior of the fibrous porous layer and the film respectively. However, the over-simplification of the interaction modelling between the porous layer and the film limits the applicability of such approach which has been evidenced by the bad correlation between the calculation results and the experimental data. To close the gap, an enhanced estimation approach is proposed here by adopting transfer matrix method to describe the complex interaction between the fibrous porous layer and the film in which the transfer matrix is acquired via both impedance tube test and a FE calculation. The sound absorption coefficient is then estimated by using the enhanced approach and compared with experiments. The comparison shows the proposed enhanced approach generate much better correlation with test data than the conventional approach. The potential of such modelling approach in the application of larger scale sound package would be explored in a future study.
