The cardiovascular dynamic simulator is designed and fabricated to precisely reproduce the human blood pressure waveforms by mimicking human cardiovascular physiology. The fabricated cardiovascular simulator consists of modules including heart, artery, and reservoir with peripheral resistance, to simulate the human cardiovascular system. The heart module generates ventricular pressure input to the entire simulator through stroke control. The artery module follows the physiological structure of the human arterial system and adjusts the stiffness of the vessel wall through a compliance chamber. The reservoir module adjusts the minimum pressure of the entire system and controls the systolic blood pressure by changing the ratio of the vascular open area using peripheral resistance. Parametric studies of peripheral resistance and aortic wall stiffness are performed to determine the effect of cardiovascular physiology on blood pressure waveforms. The simulator is cross-validated with a windkessel model, which is a fluid-electrical equivalent circuit based on anatomical data. As a result, the ventricular and aortic pressure waveforms measured in the dynamic simulator matched well with actual human blood pressure waveforms. The dynamic simulator in this work reproduces the amplitude variation of human blood pressure waveforms by adjusting structural parameters based on cardiovascular physiology. Parametric studies of cardiovascular characteristics [1], reproduction of virtual patients, simulation of blood pressure measurement process [2-5], and development of blood pressure sensors, can be applications of this cardiovascular dynamic simulator.
