Acoustic black hole (ABH) effect generates drastic wave energy focusing and dissipation in thin plate structures through structural thickness tailoring. As a lightweight and efficient passive damping, ABH structures have great potential for vibration and noise control in engineering applications. Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has its unique advantages of light weight, high specific strength and high specific modulus, which is widely used in the industrial world, e.g. aerospace applications. In order to investigate the wave energy focalization effect and its vibration suppression characteristics in CFRP-ABH plates, finite element models of CFRP plates embedded with ABH are built using commercial software ABAQUS. Influence of the composite ply angles on the wave propagation process and energy focalization effect is investigated. Comparing to the energy focalization in conventional mental ABH plate, the effectiveness of wave energy focalization effect in CFRP-ABH plates is demonstrated. Moreover, the dynamic response characteristics of CFRP-ABH plates coated with damping layer are also investigated. Result shows its broadband vibration suppression capacity, which provides guidance for the design of CFRP-ABH structures in engineering applications.
